The Burren Way The Burren in County Clare is a National Conservation Area, an amazing limestone escarpment, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. Burren is an English word, derived from the gaelic “boireann”, a rocky place. But the Burren is shaped more by water than by rock. Underground, there are thousands of streams and rivers. It exists because it is perfectly balanced, at the edge of the sea, at the end of the land, made of rock that was once eroded from above and is now being eroded from below. It is a short walking route of 45km (26.5miles), which follows the Clare coastline, Cliffs of Moher and crosses the limestone plateau.Spring abounds with wildflowers – gentians, bloody cranesbill, wild orchids. The trail starts at Liscannor and finishes in Ballyvaughan. Our route includes a loop walk around Black Head and village locations for each overnight stay. You will also have a chance to visit one of … Continue reading

Dotted with almost 40 lakes, the lakelands of East Clare have quality services and facilities for the angler whilst the unrivalled asset of Lough Derg and the Shannon waterway provide both game and coarse angling. Corofin is right at the heart of a lake-complex, which forms part of the Fergus headwaters and also offers excellent coarse and game fishing. Ireland is one of the most popular sport fishing destinations in Europe and for good reason. The massive variety and quality of fishing has given the country an enviable reputation. The island of Ireland stretches just 310 miles in length and 186 miles in width, but with a ratio of 1:35 (water to land), it seems everywhere you turn, there’s an … Continue reading

Lahinch Golf Club Distance from Corlea House – 1 & 1/2 hour drive. Playing the Old Course at Lahinch just a week before winning the 2009 Open Championship, Stewart Cink came away smitten with the club. The “first 10 holes at Lahinch are some of the coolest links holes I’ve ever played,” Cink said. His comments only solidify Lahinch’s status among the top links golf courses, not only in Ireland, but in the world. Phil Mickelson rates Lahinch among his all-time favourite links layouts though that’s what you’d expect from a golf course touched by the magical hands of Old Tom Morris and Alister Mackenzie.
